Ad Group
A set of ads within a campaign that share the same targeting criteria and bid settings. Used in Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, and other platforms.
Ad Impression
A single instance of an ad being displayed to a user. One impression = one time the ad was shown, regardless of whether the user engaged with it.
Ad Network

Ad Rank

Ad Scheduling (Dayparting)
Setting specific times and days when ads should run. Used to concentrate budget during hours when conversions are most likely.
Aged Account
An advertising account with months or years of history, which typically receives better treatment from platform algorithms than new accounts. Why aged accounts outperform.
Agency Account

API (Application Programming Interface)
A set of protocols that allows software applications to communicate with each other. Ad platforms provide APIs for automated campaign management.
ASO (App Store Optimization)
The process of optimizing mobile app listings to rank higher in app store search results. ASO services.
Attribution

Audience Network

Automated Bidding

Bid
The maximum amount an advertiser is willing to pay for a click, impression, or conversion. Actual cost is typically lower than the bid.
Bid Adjustment
A percentage increase or decrease applied to bids based on criteria like device, location, time of day, or audience.
Bounce Rate

Brand Lift

Broad Match
A keyword match type in search advertising that triggers ads for searches related to the keyword, including synonyms, related queries, and variations.
Budget Optimization (CBO)

CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost)
The total cost to acquire a new customer, including all marketing and sales expenses. Broader than CPA, which typically measures a single conversion event. Lower your CAC with our lead generation service.
Call Extension
A Google Ads extension that adds a phone number to your ad, allowing users to call directly from search results.
Campaign
The highest organizational level in most ad platforms. Contains ad groups/ad sets, budget settings, and campaign-level targeting.
Carousel Ad
An ad format on Meta and LinkedIn that displays multiple images or videos in a swipeable format, each with its own headline and link. We produce carousel creatives via our creative production.
Click-Through Rate (CTR)

Conversion

Conversion Rate

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

Cookie
A small data file stored in a user's browser that tracks website activity. Used for retargeting and conversion tracking.
CPA (Cost Per Acquisition)
The average cost to acquire one conversion. Calculated as total spend divided by total conversions. How to reduce CPA.
CPC (Cost Per Click)

CPM (Cost Per Mille)

Creative

Cross-Device Tracking
The ability to track a user's journey across multiple devices (phone, tablet, desktop) and attribute conversions accurately.
Custom Audience
An audience created from your own data - customer email lists, website visitors, app users, or engagement audiences. Used for retargeting and lookalike creation. We build and activate custom audiences in our paid social strategy.

DDA (Data-Driven Attribution)
An attribution model that uses machine learning to assign conversion credit to touchpoints based on their actual contribution to conversions. We run DDA for all clients under our managed campaigns.
Demand Generation
Marketing activities that create awareness and interest in a product or service. Distinguished from demand capture (search advertising) which targets existing intent. We cover full-funnel demand and lead generation.
Display Advertising

DMP (Data Management Platform)
A platform that collects, organizes, and activates first-party, second-party, and third-party audience data for targeting. DMP integrations are part of our managed campaigns.
DSP (Demand-Side Platform)

Dynamic Ads

eCPM (Effective CPM)
A standardized metric that converts any pricing model (CPC, CPA) to CPM equivalent for comparison. eCPM = (total revenue / impressions) x 1,000.
Enhanced Conversions

Exact Match
A keyword match type that triggers ads only when the search query closely matches the keyword. Provides the most control but lowest reach.
F
First-Party Data
Data collected directly from your own customers and website visitors. Increasingly important as third-party cookies are deprecated. First-party data activation is standard in our managed campaigns.
Frequency
The average number of times each user sees your ad during a campaign. High frequency can cause ad fatigue.
Frequency Cap
A limit on how many times a single user can see your ad within a specified time period. Essential for preventing ad fatigue.
FTD (First-Time Depositor)

Funnel

GDN (Google Display Network)

Geo-Targeting

Header Bidding

Heatmap

I
Impression Share

In-Market Audience
Users who Google has identified as actively researching or shopping for products/services in a specific category.
Incrementality

Keyword

KPI (Key Performance Indicator)

Landing Page

Lead Generation

Lookalike Audience

LTV (Lifetime Value)

MCC (Manager Account)

Media Buying

MER (Marketing Efficiency Ratio)

Meta Ads
The advertising platform for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Audience Network. Meta Ads accounts.
Micro-Conversion
A smaller action that indicates progress toward a primary conversion - email signup, add to cart, content download, video view.

Native Advertising

Negative Keyword

Omnichannel

Performance Max (PMax)

PPC (Pay Per Click)

Q
Quality Score

R
Reach
The total number of unique users who saw your ad at least once during a campaign period.
Remarketing / Retargeting
Showing ads to users who have previously interacted with your website, app, or content. Retargeting strategies.
Responsive Search Ad (RSA)
Google Ads format where you provide multiple headlines and descriptions, and Google's AI tests combinations to find the best performers.
ROAS (Return on Ad Spend)

ROI (Return on Investment)
Net profit divided by total investment cost. More comprehensive than ROAS as it includes all costs, not just ad spend. We report full ROI (not just ROAS) in our managed campaigns.
RLSA (Remarketing Lists for Search Ads)
Google Ads feature that adjusts search campaign bids for users who have previously visited your website. RLSA is standard in our search managed campaigns.

SEM (Search Engine Marketing)
Marketing through paid search advertising. Often used interchangeably with PPC but technically includes SEO as well. We run full-service SEM through our search agency.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

SERP (Search Engine Results Page)

UGC (User-Generated Content)

UTM Parameters

V
VCC (Virtual Credit Card)

View-Through Conversion
A conversion that occurs after a user saw (but did not click) your ad. Typically attributed within a 1-7 day window.
Video Ads

Warming (Account Warming)
