What is Internal Linking?
Internal linking is the practice of linking pages within your own site to one another. Done strategically it concentrates authority on your most important pages, helps Google understand topical relationships, and is one of the highest-ROI on-page SEO levers available.
Why internal links matter so much
Authority flows through links. External backlinks bring authority into the site; internal links distribute it across pages. A strong internal-link structure can lift cluster rankings 30 to 80% without any new backlinks.
Hub-and-spoke topical clusters
A pillar page targets the head term ('Programmatic Advertising'). Spoke pages target subtopics ('DV360', 'DSP', 'Programmatic Guaranteed'). Every spoke links to the pillar; the pillar links to every spoke. Google reads this as topical authority.
Anchor text discipline
Internal anchor text should be descriptive and match the target page's primary topic. Avoid 'click here'. Avoid stuffing exact-match anchors aggressively (looks spammy). Aim for natural, varied, descriptive.

Frequently asked
How many internal links per page?
No magic number. 5 to 30 contextual links is normal for content pages.
Should every page link to the homepage?
Already linked from the nav. Internal anchor text on the homepage offers little value.
Nofollow internal links?
Almost never. Nofollow on internal links wastes authority.
Can I overdo internal linking?
If links become unreadable or look manipulative, yes. Optimize for the reader first.
